Day 1
The flight to Paro is one of the most
spectacular of all mountain flights. One can
see Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt.
Makalu and other peaks in Bhutan such as Mt.
Chomalhari, Mt. Jichu Drake and Mt. Tsrim
Ghang. The first gift from Bhutan will be
cool, clean fresh air as you step out of the
aircraft. You will be received by the
representative of Silver Dragon Tours &
Treks Ltd. and escorted to your hotel.
Overnight hotel.
Day 2
Paro sight seeing: morning hike up to
the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s nest). The
climb up to the viewpoint will take approx.
3 hours. Enjoy the stunning view of the
monastery, where Guru Padmasambhava flew on
the back of a tiger and landed there in the
8th century, and meditated for three months.
The monastery was later built in this holy
place in 1684. After tea in the café, walk
back to the road point and drive to hotel
for lunch. In the afternoon visit the Ta-dzong,
which was converted into the National museum
in 1967, and is filled with antique thankha
paintings, textiles, weapons and armor.
Drive to the Rinpung dzong, built in 17th
century to defend the valley against Tibetan
invaders. The dzong is now used as an
administration centre and monastery for
monks. Stroll in the local market. Overnight
at Paro.
Day 3
Paro / Thimphu: Drive to Thimphu (54
km), the modern capital of Bhutan with
sightseeing enroute. The drive will take
approx. 2 hours. After lunch, visit the
Memorial Stupa of the Late King, built in
1974, the Indigenous Hospital, where
traditional medicine is still practiced, and
the Painting School, where students still
learn the ancient art of Thanka painting.
Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.
Day 4
Thimphu / Punakha : Drive to Punakha (70km)
via the Dochula pass. An hour’s drive from
Thimphu will take you to this pass (3050mts)
where one can have a superb view of the
Eastern Himalayas on a clear day. Drive on
to Punakha, the old capital of Bhutan and
presently the winter residence of the
central monk body. After lunch, visit the
Punakha dzong, (May / Oct) located on the
island of the Pho-Chu (male) river and the
Mo-Chu (female) river. Walk around the
street of Punakha and drive back to the
Hotel Meri Puensum Overnight Punakha.
Day 5
Punakha/ Thimphu: Drive back to Thimphu via
Wangduephodrang, to see the panoramic view
of the dzong and valley. Overnight at the
hotel in Thimphu.
Day 6
Morning witness the mask and folk dances
at the Royal Academy of Performance & Art,
visit the Handicraft Emporium and go for
shopping. Afternoon drive to Paro for
overnight stay. Overnight Paro in the Hotel
Day 7
Drive to airport to catch Druk Air flight.
