Silver Dragon Tours and Treks (SDTT) is one of the few successful tour companies which was started with a genuine interest on the part of the management to give all the guests, who come through SDTT, a true Bhutanese experience and holiday.
Silver signifies purity and the Dragon has been associated with Bhutanese history since times immemorial. It signifies strength and loyalty. Bhutan is also known as Drukyul, the land of the thunder Dragon.

Apart from the proprietor Palden Tshewang, who has a vast experience as a travel guide since 1995, SDTT has numerous skilled, knowledgeable and friendly ready-to-serve guides and assistants.

Palden visited the United States in the summer of 2001 on an invitation by the proprietors of A World Away Travels, Tricia and Colin Reynolds, to partake in further guide training. On his month long trip his training included wilderness trekking and camping in the Colorado Rockies, an introduction to rock climbing, trekking and traveling in the desert. These opportunities allowed him to further develop his wilderness and trekking skills, while having a chance to learn about the places where our clients live and recreate. It was an invaluable lesson in the field. Also during his month long trip Palden had the opportunity to partake in a whitewater kayak and inflatable raft course. To complete his trip he was also introduced to First Aid.

The inspiration provided by his two hosts resulted in the culmination of Silver Dragon Tours and Treks in the spring of 2003. Since then Silver Dragon and A World Away Travels have served and provided memorable holidays to a large number of tourists. The clientele has continued to grow through the years and the two companies now share an excellent goodwill among many clients. Palden is evermore grateful for the knowledge and support he has derived from working with Colin and Tricia who continue to support and provide expert guidance from the US.

To further his guide training and gain knowledge in the world of tourism, Palden joined seasoned guide and author of “Trekking in Tibet” Gary McCue on a month long trek to the Everest’s East Face, the Kangshung in the summer of 2005. Mr. McCue is the authority on trekking in Tibet. Paden’s travels in Tibet with Gary allowed him to be first handedly trained by and one of the most experienced trip leaders in all of Nepal and Tibet.

Palden Tshewang has trekked and accompanied trekkers through all the 20 trekking routes in the kingdom from relatively easier Samtengang Trek to the formidable Snowman Trek. He also has hands-on experiences of the entire popular tourist destinations in the country and has successfully completed numerous trainings on tourism inside the country.
